Big Elk Meadows Search and Rescue

On November 1, 2011, Robin Kay, a 52 year old woman from Big Elk Meadows was reported missing after she left her home to go on a hike at approximately 6 pm. At 11 pm, it was reported to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Search and Rescue resources from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Front Range Rescue Dogs, Big Elk Meadows Fire Department, Pinewood Springs Fire Department and Estes Park Ambulance participated in the search.


Kay was found at approximately 4:30 am the following morning in a vacant cabin on County Road 82E, approximately 3 miles from her home. She had taken shelter in the cabin during the snow storm. Kay was escorted home and required no medical attention.


Big Elk Meadows is located northwest of Lyons, Colorado along the Boulder and Larimer county line.
