Vigilant Citizens Honored in the Fight against Elder Abuse – June 12

Boulder County, Colo. – Boulder County’s Adult Protection Review Team and the Elder Justice Coalition will recognize 6 courageous community members who took a stand against elder abuse at a ceremony on June 12.
Boulder County is a wonderful community in which to raise a family and age in place, but as with any location, there is concern about the many occurrences of neglect, abuse and exploitation targeted at elders.The 7th Annual Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention Recognition Ceremony honors courageous and caring action taken by people to stop abuse.

When: June 12, 3-5 p.m.
Where: East Boulder Senior Center, 5660 Sioux Dr., Boulder

  Commander Heidi Prentup of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office

The Elder Justice Coalition of Boulder County consists of nonprofit and governmental agencies, businesses and individuals working together to improve the local coordinated community response to elder abuse. It addresses systemic challenges and provides education and training programs. The Boulder County Adult Protection Review Team is a team of agencies that reviews challenging APS and community cases to strengthen our response.

We invite the public to join us in recognizing the 6 heroes from this past year:
  • Elizabeth Oros – community member, for her heartfelt commitment to combat elder abuse
  • Marc Wehr – CPA, CFP, for his vigilance in guiding clients 
  • Marnie Biln – All About Seniors, for her unflagging efforts helping elders find housing
  • Deputy DA Jane Walsh – director of the Community Protection Division, for her great successes in obtaining convictions of perpetrators of elder abuse 
  • Detective Steve Faber – City of Boulder Police Dept. for his careful and compassionate  investigations of very tough situations
  • Frasier Meadows Retirement Community – for their quick, life-saving action removing vulnerable elders from the stunningly fast rising waters during the 2013 Flood
