Meet the Assessor

Jerry Roberts is currently serving as Boulder County Assessor. Jerry was appointed in July of 2007 to replace Cindy Domenico who was elected to the post of Boulder County Commissioner.

Jerry has been a member of the Assessor’s Office staff since 1980. In his 27 years in the Boulder County Assessor’s Office, Jerry has acquired progressively responsible experience in virtually all aspects of the office. He has been a Residential Appraiser, Land Appraiser, Review Appraiser, Commercial Department Deputy, and Mass Appraisal Deputy. Early in 2007 he was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy.

      Among his professional accomplishments:

      • In 1992, Jerry obtained a Certified General Appraisal License, the highest level of licensure granted by the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers.

      • As a Commercial Deputy for 10 years, from 1987 to 1997, he played a major role in developing the user interface applications on the county’s mainframe system. He was responsible for developing and implementing the first automated, commercial cost, market, and income approaches to value that had previously been done manually. He was directly involved in defining the commercial and residential geographic neighborhoods, many of which are still essentially the same after 20 years.

      • Jerry has successfully defended numerous appraisals before the State Board of Assessment Appeals and is recognized as an expert witness for many types of appraisals including complex commercial/industrial properties.

      • In his role as review appraiser for 8 years, from 1997 to 2005, he was responsible for the development and implementation of all the multiple regression models used to predict property values.

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for the valuation of 120,000 properties, currently worth an approximate $48 billion in market value. Focus has been on all aspects of mass appraisal including the GIS (Geographic Information System) and technology for appraisal analysis.

Jerry is committed to providing the best in public service, including innovation, strong, collaborative leadership and partnership with the taxpayers of Boulder County.

Jerry has lived in Boulder County for over 39 years. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado, Jerry went to work for the Adams County Assessor’s Office in 1973. Remaining as a resident in Boulder after college, he joined the Boulder County Assessor’s Office in 1980. Jerry’s wife, Lorri, has spent the majority of her career years acting as an advocate to children and adults with disabilities and their families, employed in non-profits and publicly funded agencies.
