A Message from the Boulder County Commissioners

Anyone who lives in or has visited Boulder County knows it is a very special place. Our exceptional quality of life didn't happen by accident. Boulder County residents and leaders have a decades-long commitment to preserving the extraordinary natural beauty of our county. Our vision, as expressed in the Comprehensive Plan, is to maintain the rural countryside by directing new urban development towards cities and towns where services exist.

Boulder County is a leader in developing tools to manage growth wisely, a top concern of our residents.  We work closely with other local governments to develop intergovernmental agreements to guide growth. We created the award-winning Transferable Development Rights Program, a process to transfer development rights from agricultural and other rural lands to properties adjacent to existing development.

Our popular Open Space Program has preserved more than 68,000 acres of land ranging from forested foothills to creek-side trails to prime agricultural lands while protecting important wildlife corridors and riparian habitats. Key open spaces provide buffers between communities and relief from growing urbanization.

Boulder County has a deep and longtime commitment to outstanding human service delivery with a national reputation for developing innovative programs that promote health, well-being and self-sufficiency through emphasis on prevention programs.

In Boulder County, customer service is more than just a buzz word.  We place a very high value on customer service in every one of our functions and regularly gauge residents' ideas about our services to help us provide the best, most responsive and cost-effective services possible.

We have a commitment to decentralize to make it easier for residents to access services close to home.  While the county seat is in Boulder, we also have offices in Longmont, Louisville and Lafayette.

We are proud to be your County Commissioners in this exceptional place we call home. Working together on our initiatives we can help ensure our outstanding quality of life into the future.
