Developmental disabilities/health and human services property tax

Nonprofit partnerships provide care, services and well-being for all county residents.

This property tax supplemented an existing mill levy to support developmental disabilities programs in Boulder County. The tax brings total funding of developmental disability programs to one mill

Funding from this tax pays to help people of all ages with cognitive and developmental disabilities live fuller, more satisfying and more independent lives.

The majority of funding supports Imagine!, a local non-profit that provides services such as:

  • Education and therapy

  • Work opportunities in the community

  • Recreational learning and leisure activities

  • Facilitation of independent and group living

  • Support for families that care for their children at home

  • Guidance in every day living.

What: 1.5-mill property tax (one mill to fund services for developmentally disabled persons, 0.5 mills to Health and Human Services)

Adopted by voters: 2002

Expires: n/a (perpetual)

Allocation restrictions:
incremental mill levy increase to bring County funding of developmental disabilities programs up to 1 mill total funding; Remainder of funds to be allocated to health and human services organizations to backfill state cuts in funding

Estimated revenues in 2007: $7.4 million

 

After ensuring one full mill of property taxes go to developmental disabilities, the remainder of funds raised by this tax are allocated to health and human services in Boulder County. Programs that receive funding include:

  •  Aging Services
  •  Community Services
  •  Social Services
  • Juvenile Diversion Program
  • District Attorney's Community Justice Program
  • Special Transit
  • And more...
