Diesel
Vehicles
All light duty diesel fueled vehicles purchased on a MSO (manufacturer statement of
origin) on or after
July 1, 2007 are exempt
from emissions testing for the first four years of service.
Diesel fueled vehicles purchased before July 1, 2007 will remain in the
two-year exemption period.
Exception:
If the vehicle is tested for
emissions during the four-year exemption period, the exemption period
becomes invalid and must follow the emissions schedule based on model
year of the vehicle.
When the
vehicle is sold during the four-year exemption period, the exemption is
transferable to the new owner, if there are 12 months or more remaining
at time of sale. If there are less than 12 months remaining, a
diesel emissions test will be required.
Light Duty Vehicles
with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
(GVWR) of 14,000 lbs or less are considered light duty vehicles.
Model year vehicle 2004 and newer require a diesel emissions test every
other year. Model year 2003 and older will require a diesel
emissions test every year.
Heavy Duty Vehicles
with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
(GVWR) of 14,001 lbs or over are considered heavy duty vehicles.
Heavy Duty Vehicles in their fifth through tenth year of
service require a diesel emissions test every other year. Vehicles in
their eleventh year of service require a diesel emissions test every year.
Diesel emissions testing centers charge up to "one hour of posted labor".
