Homemade Trailers
If a private party builds a homemade
trailer, it is necessary to come into the Boulder County Clerk & Recorder's Motor
Vehicle office to apply for a trailer identification number. To complete
the application you must know the length, width, weight, value, and type
of trailer. If parts or supplies were purchased to build the trailer,
receipts are required. A title will also be applied for at the time the
trailer identification number is obtained.
The builder must sign an affidavit stating
that the trailer was built with parts on hand and small purchases. Upon
completion of the application, the Boulder County Clerk will assign an
identification number on a metal plate which must be attached to the
right front corner of the frame or nearest metal part.
The fee for the metal plate with newly assigned identification number is
$3.50.
