Secure and Verifiable Identification is required for all transactions. The identification must be provided by the owner
of record or with a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have a secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
Cash Purchase from a
Dealer
If you paid cash for a vehicle purchased from a dealer, the dealer
will give you the necessary paperwork approximately thirty days after
the sale. Bring all paperwork, including proof of insurance and
emissions testing (if applicable) into the County Clerk & Recorder's Motor Vehicle
office to apply for title and plates.
Proof of insurance may be in the form of an insurance card or a
letter from the insurance company. The information must include the
year, make, Vehicle Identification Number and the current policy
effective and expiration dates.
The dealer is responsible for having the required emissions test
done. As buyer you are responsible for all sales taxes and the title and
registration fees. Boulder County residents may come into any of our
three offices in Boulder, Longmont, or Louisville.
