Registration from out of state
Secure and Verifiable Identification is required for all transactions. The identification must be provided by the owner
of record or with a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have a secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
Registering
with a Colorado Title
If you are registering a newly purchased vehicle with a Colorado title,
you need to submit:
- Title
The Colorado title,
properly signed off by the seller.
- Odometer Disclosure
An odometer disclosure is required for vehicles ten years old and newer.
The odometer disclosure can be found on the back of a Colorado title.
- Bill of Sale
The bill of sale must list the purchase price. Sales taxes are
collected at the time of titling and/or registration.
- Registration Timelines
A buyer of a vehicle can operate a newly purchased vehicle on the
highway prior to registration if the vehicle was purchased either on a
Saturday, on a Sunday, on a legal holiday, or any day between 5:00 p.m.
and 8:00 a.m. The buyer must carry the bill of sale, which has the time
and date of sale, in the vehicle. Bill of sale must be signed by the
buyer and seller. The buyer must also carry proof of insurance in the
vehicle as required by statute.
- Security Agreement
If the purchase of your vehicle is financed through a lending
institution, an original security agreement must be provided.
- Emissions Test
If applicable, obtain
an emissions sticker from Air Care Colorado. Unless otherwise agreed,
the seller is required to provide the buyer with a new emissions test.
