Secure and Verifiable Identification is required for all transactions. The identification must be provided by the owner
of record or with a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have a secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
Vehicle Registration From Out of State
If you are a new resident of Colorado, you must register
and license your vehicle within thirty days once residency is
established.
Residency is defined as:
-
Establishing a home in Colorado
-
Registering to vote in Colorado
-
Obtaining a Colorado Driver's License.
There are criminal and civil penalties for failure to comply with
registration requirements.
To register your vehicle, you must bring the proof of emissions test, if
applicable, (excluding motorcycles), verification of the Vehicle Identification
Number, proof of insurance, and the current out-of- state registration
to our office. All gas-fueled vehicles are exempt from
emissions testing within the first four years of service.
For example, in 2008, we will exempt all 2005 through 2008 model
year gas-fueled vehicles from emissions testing. Next year, we
will exempt all 2006 through 2009 model year gas-fueled vehicles from emissions
testing.
Exception:
If a gas-fueled emissions exempt vehicle, tests for emissions
(anytime during the four-year exemption period), the four-year
exemption period is invalid and the vehicle must be tested every
two years.
The Verification of the Vehicle Identification Number may be verified at the emissions
station or licensed dealership. Proof of insurance may be in the form of an
insurance card or a letter from the insurance company. The information
must include the year, make, and Vehicle Identification Number and the
policy effective and expiration dates.
A weight slip is required on out-of-state trucks, motor homes, and vans
if the empty weight is over 4,500 pounds. This includes cargo vans or
vans which have had the rear passenger seats permanently removed.
Trailers weighing more than 2,000 pounds also require a weight slip.
