Project Visibility is a training program for administrators and staff of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care agencies, and other providers of services to older adults.

The training is comprised of a 20-minute film that showcases the lives of LGBT elders, a PowerPoint presentation, and a manual.

Why a training on the LGBT elder community?

LGBT elders are not certain what to do if they should need services. They are concerned with the level of sensitivity and awareness training of staff at facilities and agencies.

LGBT elders deserve to age gracefully without fear of judgment and discrimination.

Profile of the LGBT community

We estimate, that nationwide, there are 1 to 3 million Americans who are LGBT

Research has found:

  • LGBT elders do not have the support networks that are enjoyed by their heterosexual peers.

  • LGBT elders are five times less likely to access senior services than their heterosexual peers.

  • LGBT elders do not know where to go if they should need formal care.

The Project Visibility Training Program:

The film brings awareness and a face to the issues of aging as an LGBT. Courageous elders speak about their lives, their strengths, wishes, and concerns about the aging services network.

The PowerPoint presentation provides information from research and allows the audience to delve deeper into the subject.

The manual provides history, background information, terminology, resources, and practical suggestions for providing culturally-competent care and service

We hold general trainings in Boulder, Colorado throughout the year. Coming soon is a Train-The-Trainer program.
