Wellness and Nutrition
Helping You Stay Healthy
We assist older adults in making healthy choices by offering information on wellness activities that occur throughout the county, providing educational workshops on issues such as Safe Medication Use, coordinating exercise classes in rural and low-to moderate-income locales, and addressing gaps in services throughout Boulder County.
Good nutrition is essential for maintaining health, preventing disease, and managing chronic conditions. BCASD funds the Louisville, Lafayette, and Nederland senior meal programs, coordinates the county-wide Nutrition Provider Council, provides nutrition counseling and education, and coordinates diabetic support groups. We also assist meal providers in menu planning and in creating heart-healthy and diabetic meals.
Wellness and Nutrition Services We Offer
- Exercise Classes
We offer exercise classes for older adults in Allenspark, the Lydia Morgan Apartments in Louisville, and the Villa West Apartments in Lafayette.
- Wellness Courses
Throughout the year we offer a variety of wellness courses. Some courses we have provided in the past include Safe Medication Education, A Matter of Balance: Fear of Falling, and Emotional Wellness Workshops.
- Nutrition Counseling
We provide nutrition counseling to any older adult over 60 and their caregivers. Nutritionists usually meet clients in their homes, but often meet at senior centers or other places. There is no cost to this service, and donations are always appreciated. For more information or to set up an appointment call 303-678-6118 and leave your contact information.
- Nutrition Education
We coordinate and provide nutrition education for older adults, family caregivers, and service providers, such as home care agencies. Our once a month publication, BCASD Nutrition and Health News is distributed through the network of meal providers throughout the county.
- Diabetes Support
We have a Certified Diabetes Educator on staff available for consultations. We also host two diabetic support groups for older adults in Lafayette and Louisville.
- Collaboration
We coordinate a Nutrition Provider Council to address food security among older adults in Boulder County. We are also a member of the Colorado Association of Nutrition Services Directors and the National Association of Nutrition Service Providers.
