CAP works on a variety of collaborative projects whose goal is to advocate
for newly-arrived immigrants living and working in Boulder County. These
projects are: citizenship classes and publication of a resource
directory, and St. Vrain Valley Latino Coalition.
CAP, together with a number of area human services agencies, has put
together an informal handbook for immigrants around the county entitled
"Finding Your Way in the USA, a bilingual roadmap for immigrants
and immigrant advocates in Boulder County." This booklet provides information
about resources, services and legal rights for immigrants. These handbooks
are available for a small fee from CAP.

| People Engaged in
Raising Leaders (P.E.R.L.) ~ |
The People Engaged in Raising Leaders (P.E.R.L.) is an eleven session
training program designed to increase involvement among people of color
on boards and commissions across the county. P.E.R.L. came about as a
result of the inclusiveness work the Community Foundation was doing with
non-profit organizations. The P.E.R.L. collaborative formed and
developed the curriculum. The training focuses on empowering people of
color to participate and become more involved civically in their
community. Participants will gain the skills and obtain the tools
necessary to better understand the process, structure, and make-up of
boards and commissions. The training prepares people of color to take
leadership positions on boards and commissions and ensure authentic
participation. Organizations are encouraged to participate in inclusive
opportunities that are offered locally through the Expanding
Leadership Initiative through the Community Foundation serving Boulder
County.

| Latina/Latino Life Skills Training
~ |
The Latina/Latino Life Skills program works with
middle and high school aged boys and girls in Lafayette, Longmont, and Boulder. The Life Skills Training covers topics specific to daily life
skills, and making more informed, healthy choices about behaviors
that could directly affect future goals and dreams. The topic areas include: cultural
pride, daily life skills, self esteem, goal-setting and how to achieve
them, caring for
yourself, conflict resolution with peers and adults, and making healthy
choices. Guest speakers are invited to come
and address the groups on many of these topics. This is a collaborative
effort with both the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School
Districts, as well as many other organizations in Boulder County.

CAP has
assembled representatives from organizations, agencies and municipalities
throughout Boulder County to contribute to the development of a Speakers
Bureau, called Making a Difference in Your Community. The goal of the bureau
is to educate the community regarding various issues of poverty and the
working poor in Boulder County and to provide resource materials to help
them become involved in solutions. Civic, business, and faith-based
organizations will be able to request a 20-45 minute program to speak on
these issues, providing both general and city/issue specific topics.
Speakers are recruited from represented human service agencies/organizations, and
low-income members of the community.
After receiving training on presenting the programming, they work in teams of
two to provide the audience with both a personal face and a community
perspective on the issues discussed.
