The Casa de la Esperanza (House of Hope) family, farm worker housing
site is owned and operated by the Boulder County Housing Authority (BCHA).
The mission of the BCHA is to foster the availability of quality,
affordable housing and related services for the residents of Boulder
County, using broad community resources. It will accomplish this mission
through community collaboration, effective services and programs,
efficient resource management and expansion of funding sources. The
Boulder Community Housing Corporation is the non-profit 501 (c) 3
organization that serves as the umbrella agency for the Casa de la
Esperanza Resident Program. The BCHA is the fiscal agent for the
Resident Program.
Casa de la Esperanza is made up of seven buildings, six of which are the
apartment housing. Thirty-two, three and four bedroom apartments compose
Casa de la Esperanza and house an average of 85 children and 70 adults.
The seventh building is the community center and the heart of the
activity at Casa de la Esperanza. The community center is made up of a
large community room, management office, restrooms, laundry facilities
and has two wings: a Head Start classroom and a larger academic center
for the Resident Program.

The purpose of the Resident Program is to improve self-esteem, school
performance, and respect for home and school by providing the
participants with a positive, caring environment through educational and
recreational activities. It is an asset-based program that aims to
connect the program participants with opportunities that will empower
and educate them. The program activities occur in the academic center,
community room, playground and outside common area including the
basketball court. The academic center is made up of a larger computer
lab that contains a dozen top of the line computer stations with
Internet access, scanner, CD-Writer, network printer and a second color
printer plus a variety of educational and resource software. It also has
a small classroom, storage area and program coordinator’s office. The
community room is used for both academic and recreational activities,
community meetings, and celebrations.

Goals of the Casa de la Esperanza Resident Program are:
- To provide secure, safe, enriching, and fun activities for the
children of Casa de la Esperanza and other program participants.
- To offer structured, participatory activities as an alternative
to non-structured, aimless, and sometimes destructive behavior.
- To offer dependent care for the farm worker families who are
unable to be at home in the after school or summer hours.
- To make other agencies and programs in the community more
accessible to the residents for eventual greater community
involvement.
- To provide assistance for academic success and promote secondary
education to the limited English proficient students.
Objectives of the Casa de la Esperanza Resident Program are:
- Provide 70 school aged children with academic assistance with
tutorial assistance, educational resources, enrichment classes and
promoting post secondary education.
- Provide 75 children aged 4 to 18 years of age and 30 adults with
computer access and instruction to bridge the technology gap,
providing them computer knowledge and skills.
- Distribute 50 used computers to the Resident Program
participants and other low-income individuals helping them access
technology at home.
- Provide at least 5 structured activities every week for the
students and their parents.
- Recruit 20 volunteers yearly to provide needed services and
classes to the community.
- Collaborate with at least 12 agencies and programs to bring
added services and resources to the community.
