Resident Program Evaluation
The Casa de la Esperanza Resident Program is a complex variety of
activities, classes and events to provide much needed opportunities and
activities for the residents and other participants. We have a number of
students attending college, thus helping bridge the educational,
socioeconomic and opportunity gap between their generation and their
parents. The Resident Program provides essential assets so that this
community and its residents may prosper in American society. .
The program is tailored to the needs of the first generation, Mexican
immigrant students of Casa de la Esperanza. Although anyone is welcome
into the program, the residents of the community are the best served
since they live in the community and the program is run on site. The
community is low to very low income. They are limited English
proficient, recent arrivals into the country or area, unfamiliar with
the school system and community services. The Resident Program is a
community program and offers its services to young and old. The adult
program includes:
- Citizenship classes
- Computer classes
- English classes
- Women’s craft group
Youth activities include:
- 4-H club
- Academic assistance
- Art classes
- Boy Scouts
- Computer classes and computer access
- English enrichment classes
- Leadership class
- Reading groups
- Summer math classes
- Tae Kwon Do classes
The community events include holiday celebrations, a yearly high
school graduation party, volunteer dinners, youth dances, resident
meetings and educational trainings.
From September 2004 to August 2004, there were 89 male and 91 female
participants active in one or more aspects of the Resident Program; and
of those 71 were parents. By the end of December 2004, the program
served over 180 people. The Resident Program is a quality program in
which the participants participate very regularly participating 5 out of
7 days of week and averaging 16 hours a week in the Resident Program. In
the reporting period of September 2003 to July 2004, there were 26
volunteers that provided one of a variety of services to the Casa de la
Esperanza community for a total of 2,450 hours of volunteer time.

At this time, the program coordinator is the only staff of the Resident
Program. The coordinator’s key role is in attaining resources and
services for the farm worker community and the many non-residents that
live in the larger community of Boulder County. The coordinator is
responsible for all the grant writing and fundraising and continually
works to diversify the program’s funding sources. Volunteer computer
technicians maintain the computer lab, provide bilingual (Spanish and
English) computer instruction and receive donations of used computers,
which are refurbished and donated to the program’s students.

Resident Program Evaluation~ |
Program evaluation is made up of various components. The monthly
resident meeting allows for feedback and needs assessment. Every year,
the children and their parents are surveyed so that they may rate the
program activities and also comment on ideas they may have for the
program. A file is kept on each participant to track their progress,
document their participation and evaluate their needs.
