Consumer Affairs FAQ
4. Colorado's Motor Vehicle Repair Act requires a garage to give a
customer a written estimate for the cost of repairs. When a diagnosis must
be made before an estimate can be given, the garage must call the vehicle
owner with an estimate before the work can be done. When the garage
discovers that more work will need to be done, the garage must call for
consent before doing the work. If the garage has not
received approval, the final bill cannot be more than 10% or $25 more than
the estimate, whichever is less.
We are happy to provide copies of Colorado's Motor Vehicle Repair Act
to any consumer or repair facility.
