What is an arraignment?

This is the first court appearance for any traffic or misdemeanor violation. At this hearing the Magistrate will hear all cases scheduled for that day's docket. The group appearing that day will be informed of their rights before individually discussing their cases with a District Attorney or a DA's assistant.

Each defendant will then return before the Magistrate and enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. Those entering guilty pleas will be assessed court fees and fines, pay for any damages as a result of their actions, and have no further court dates.

Those entering not guilty pleas will be assigned another court date to further discuss their case.
