Museum Collection Management Intern

Description: Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department has an opening for an intern to assist with the management of the cultural history artifact collection. This intern will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the way that history is preserved and shared in Boulder County. The position is housed at the Agricultural Heritage Center in Longmont and the Nederland Mining Museum, but work is spread among historic sites and museums in Boulder County.

Qualifications: At least two years of college course work in History, Museum Studies, Interpretation, or related field. Knowledge of Colorado history, mining, collection management, and small museum administration desired.

Duties will include: This internship covers a broad range of collection management duties and projects. There will be a special focus on assessing, researching and cataloging the newly acquired Nederland Mining Museum collection using Past Perfect museum software. Other potential projects include organizing a small archive, moving artifacts from temporary storage to permanent storage, organizing permanent storage facility, and accessioning and cataloging new acquisitions. A successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently. Internship may include exposure to small museum visitor services, educational programs, collection planning, exhibit development, and volunteer management.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license and motor vehicle background check. Must be willing to work occasional days and evenings outside of schedule. Must be able to work long hours outdoors (up to 8 hours), sometimes in adverse weather conditions. This work includes lifting up to 50 pounds, loading and driving vehicles, assembling furniture and carrying equipment. Position requires wearing a uniform.

Volunteer Videographer Intern

Description: Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is recruiting for a volunteer videographer to create several short volunteer recruitment videos. Volunteer videographer will be involved in all steps of creating these videos including: planning, camera work on open space properties, and editing video clips with audio tracks to create high-quality videos for use on our website.

Time Commitment: Position is open until filled; however, applications are preferred by May 1 due to volunteer activity calendar. Length of internship can be tailored to the successful applicant's needs. Work schedule is flexible and intern can work at home to edit video.

Qualifications: Intern needs to provide own equipment (cameras, tripods, editing software, computer, etc) to create videos. Intern must demonstrate technical proficiency of film equipment and software, and knowledge of video production process from conception to production.
