Who is Joseph Pelle?

Joe Pelle was born in Burlington, Colorado and grew up in Boulder, graduating from Fairview High School in 1977. He has a masters degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado, Boulder and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1981. Pelle has also studied at the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston and the FBI Academy.

With over 25 years of experience, Joe has served with the Boulder Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department. He has served as the commander of the Detective Section of the Boulder Police Department since 1998 and served as the leader of the police SWAT team, prior to taking office in 2003.

Pelle and his wife, Stephanie, near in Longmont and have been married for over 25 years. They have two grown children who still live in the area. Pelle's hobbies include hiking, fly fishing and horseback riding.

Joe has instituted "Character Based" leadership at the Sheriff's Office and is proud of the way Sheriff's employees serve the community on a daily basis.
