Students Registering to Vote


A registered voter in Colorado is considered a resident of Colorado for income tax and motor vehicle registration and operation.

  • A person residing in Colorado temporarily may want to register to vote in their home state
  • A voter who is unable to cast a ballot in person in their home state may want to vote by mail ballot
  • Contact the secretary of state’s office to learn more


Meeting the following criteria is required to register to vote in Colorado:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be 18 years old or older at the time of the next election  
  • Be a Colorado resident for at least 22 days before the election 
  • Must not be serving a sentence (including parole) for a felony conviction

If registering without a Colorado driver's license or ID card, check the box, "I do not have a Colorado driver's license".

Registration Information

The voter registration takes effect as of the postmark date on the form. If the postmark is not legible, the effective date is the date received by the office.
