New Law Prohibits Landfill Disposal of Electronics in Colorado
Electronics & Computer Waste - The “Electronic Recycling Jobs Act,” (SB12-133) prohibits the disposal of waste electronic devices (e-waste) in Colorado as of July 1, 2013. This new law affects consumers, waste haulers, transfer stations, and landfill operators throughout the state. Effective July 1, residents can no longer place computers and many other types of electronics at the curb, or in the waste bins, for collection and disposal. Instead consumers must deliver their electronic equipment to collection facilities or collection events for recycling.

The Resource Conservation Division strives to lead and promote actions that will help Boulder County reach its goal of Zero Waste or darn near by 2025. Our mission is to provide convenient, cost-effective facilities and programs to help Boulder County reduce waste disposal, protect the environment, and conserve natural resources.
Boards
The Resource Conservation Advisory Board (RCAB) was formed in 2002 to advise the Board of County Commissioners on major waste diversion policies and strategies.
Composting & Organics
Composting is a natural process of decomposition that creates a high-quality soil amendment.
Hazardous Waste
The Hazardous Materials Management Facility accepts wastes from residents and businesses in Boulder and Broomfield counties.

The division also offers countywide public education and outreach; manages services for Boulder County government offices including in-house zero waste services, electronics waste recycling and hazardous waste disposal; assists in funding environmental education programs (provided by Eco-Cycle) in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley schools; and provides Zero Waste funding opportunities.

- Zero Waste Resolution of 2005 (26 KB)
This resolution set an initial goal of: increasing waste diversion for Boulder County government and for the county as a whole, to 50% or better by the year 2010. The ultimate goal of Boulder County’s Zero Waste Plan is to eliminate waste (i.e. achieve Zero Waste or “darn near”) by 2025.

In 2010, Boulder County Commissioners passed RESOLUTION 2010-143. The resolution confirmed Boulder County’s commitment to protecting and enhancing environmental quality in the county now and for future generations, and formally adopted the Zero Waste Action Plan.

Boulder County’s Zero Waste Action Plan outlines immediate, mid-term, and long-term plans to achieve a goal of "Zero Waste - or darn near" throughout Boulder County, including unincorporated areas, by 2025.
