Elder Justice Program

Elder Rights Program

Unfortunately, the elderly are often a target of theft, fraud and abuse.  Our office has taken a no tolerance approach to help curb crimes against the elderly. Through our Elder Rights Program, our office is able to be more effective in preventing and resolving crimes against the older population of Boulder County.

Abuse Includes the Following

  • Physical abuse/mistreatment
  • Sexual abuse
  • Verbal the emotional abuse
  • Unreasonable confinement or restraint
  • Financial exploitation
  • Caretaker neglect
  • Self-neglect

To Prevent Abuse

  • Avoid isolation
  • Trust your instincts
  • Plan ahead for times that you may be less able to make decisions
  • Get more than one opinion when making financial and medical decisions
  • Create and maintain a good social support system for yourself
  • Avoid caregiver burnout by taking care of yourself, too
  • Ask for help when you need it

You Have the Right

  • To be free from mistreatment of any kind
  • To be free from physical, emotional, or verbal threats
  • To request and get proper, timely help
  • To report anyone who threatens you or causes you harm in any way
  • To be treated with dignity and respect
  • To be SAFE and SECURE
