 Information

Fourmile Canyon Creek

Boulder County has completed the design for the restoration of Fourmile Canyon Creek. In addition, Boulder County has agreed to be the Local Sponsor for the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) project for Fourmile Canyon Creek, allowing implementation of the stream restoration project!

The goal for restoring Fourmile Canyon Creek is to expedite the natural healing process by:

  • Restoring a stable and sustainable channel configuration within the existing watershed setting
  • Restoring natural riparian and in-stream habitat
  • Utilizing natural materials to reconstruct in-stream habitat features and stabilize channel banks
  • Minimizing disturbance to private property and amenities within the watershed

Please note that the majority of the work will be completed on private property. Property owners will need to sign a Participant Agreement, giving permission to Boulder County to implement the work on private property.

See below for the design plans and associated documents.

Projects

Boulder County has developed stream restoration designs for Fourmile Canyon Creek. Funding for the designs was provided by a Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) planning grant through the Colorado Watershed Resilience Planning Grant Program to complete the stream restoration 30% design.

Designs:

The project area has been identified for funding through the Natural Resource Conservation Service's Emergency Watershed Projection (EWP) program. The EWP program. The EWP program provides financial assistance for implementation of approved creek restoration plans. Boulder County intends to be the local sponsor for the Fourmile Canyon Creek EWP project.

Fourmile Canyon Creek will be restored as part of the larger Wagonwheel Gap Road construction project. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2017.

Please not that a majority of the work will be completed on private property. Property owners who wish to be involved with the stream restoration effort will need to sign a Participant Agreement that gives permission to Boulder County to implement the work on private property and allows the county to conduct Operation and Maintenance activities for three years after project construction. Construction of all EWP projects must be started by April 2018. The county anticipates completing implementation of all stream restoration projects under this program in 2017.
