Series # 1 Topic: Bark Beetle Management 101

Saturday September 19, 2009
10:30-noon
286 Ridge Road, Nederland

Join Forestry Education and Outreach Coordinator Ryan Ludlow, for the first installment of the new Boulder County Forest Health Stewardship Educational Training Series. Until recently the bark beetle outbreak has been isolated to the Western side of the continental divide. Unfortunately, Boulder County’s forests are not immune to this little beetle and we have already begun to see significant increases in bark beetle populations throughout the county.

At this training we will help you learn how to identify a “hot” beetle infested tree on your property. We will talk about beetle ecology (mountain pine beetle and ips beetle) and explain some of the reasons this outbreak is so large. Finally, we will learn about management strategies and techniques that will help to reduce the impacts beetles might have on your property.

Please RSVP to Ryan Ludlow at rludlow@bouldercounty.org or call 720-564-2641; limited space is available for this training. This will be a hands on training so please dress to hike in the woods.
