Advisory Boards & Commissions

Advisory boards and commissions help advise the county commissioners and other elected offices and departments on matters concerning public administration, planning, budgeting, and other functions of local governance. Recruitment for board members occurs two times a year, normally in January and July.

Adult Protection Review TeamEnsures a broad range of community services are available to at risk adults.
Second Thursday of each month, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave.

Aging Advisory CouncilAdvises the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, helps in the administration and planning of Older Americans Act programs, gathers information and ideas that could help to coordinate the delivery of services and that respond effectively to the strengths and needs of older adults throughout Boulder County.
First Friday of each month, 9 a.m.-noon. Meeting location varies. No meetings in July and November.

Board of AdjustmentHears appeals and grants variances by statutory authority to the Boulder County Land Use Code.
First Wednesday of each month, 4 p.m., Land Use Conference Room or Commissioners’ Hearing Room, Boulder.

Board of HealthServes as the governing board of Boulder County Public Health by establishing policy, providing oversight, approving budget, and selecting and supervising the Public Health director.
Second Monday of each month, 5:30 p.m, Public Health Auditorium, 3450 N. Broadway, Boulder.

Board of ReviewHears and decides, by statutory authority, technical appeals to the interpretation of the Boulder County Building Code. Reviews proposed building code amendments and makes recommendations to the commissioners prior to adoption.
Meets as needed, typically the last Wednesday of each month, 3:30 p.m, Commissioners' Hearing Room, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Boulder County Fair BoardThe Boulder County Fair Board is seeking new board members to help plan and execute the fair. For more information and to download an application, contact the Fair Board directly.
The Boulder County Fair is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and not affiliated with the Boulder County government.
Citizen Review PanelReviews and makes recommendations concerning grievances of alleged inappropriate conduct by employees in the Division of Social Services in the performance of their duties.
As needed (when a complaint is registered).

Community Action Programs Administering BoardOversees program development that provides opportunities for education, self-sufficiency and community involvement for disenfranchised and low-income people.
Third Tuesday of each month, 6-8 p.m., Sundquist Conference Room, 3482 N. Broadway, Boulder.

Community Corrections BoardScreens and approves state funding for halfway house placements in Boulder County; monitors community based alternatives to incarceration and acts in an advisory capacity on relevant criminal justice issues.
Second and fourth Tuesday of each month, 7:30 a.m, Criminal Justice Center, Community Justice Services Conference Room, 1777 Sixth St., Boulder.

Core Services BoardAdvises the Department of Housing and Human Services. Conducts community needs assessment to develop alternatives to placing youth in foster care.
Third Friday of January, April, July and October, 8:30 a.m., Housing and Human Services, 3400 N. Broadway, Boulder.

Cultural CouncilDevelops recommendations to County Commissioners regarding the yearly distribution plan within Boulder County for the county's portion of the Metropolitan Scientific and Cultural Facilities District sales tax collected.
Second Tuesday of each month, 6-8 p.m. meets weekly in April and May, Hullinghorst Room, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Eldorado Springs Local Improvement District Advisory CommitteeFacilitates communication among the ratepayers and residents of ESLIDs I and II, the providers of operations and administrative services to the districts (currently Ramey Environmental and SDMS), and the Board of Directors. Advises the board on issues pertinent to the implementation of the public improvements serving the districts.
Second Thursday of each month, 6-8 p.m., Eldorado Springs Fire Hall, 4390 Eldorado Springs Drive, Eldorado Springs.

Extension Advisory CommitteePlans and reviews Cooperative Extension activities and assists in legislative activities that support the extension.
Varying Wednesdays in January, April, July and October, 5-7 p.m., County Fairgrounds Extension Office, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont.

Fire Code Review CommitteeReviews adopted fire codes and makes recommendations to County Commissioners as to whether the code shall become enforceable in unincorporated Boulder County.

Food & Agriculture Policy CouncilPromotes a locally-based food and agricultural system that advances Boulder County's economic, environmental and social wellbeing through research, education and public policy.
Third Thursday of each month, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Parks & Open Space, 5201 St. Vrain Road; County Fairgrounds Extension Office, 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont.

Foothills Regional Emergency Medical & Trauma Advisory CouncilFRETAC creates, enhances, and promotes a systematic approach to the care of the ill or injured through quality improvement, injury prevention, disaster planning, and coordination of partners in the healthcare community. County Commissioners appoint county residents to this external board.
Meets every other month on the 3rd Wednesday of that month. Location varies.

Historic Preservation Advisory BoardDecides on designations of historic structures and sites, assists in the development of the historic survey, provides historic preservation education, and assists county staff in determining the historic significance of structures older than 50 years for which a building permit has been applied.
First Thursday of each month, 6 p.m., Commissioners' Hearing Room, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Housing & Human Services Advisory CommitteeAdvises the Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services; serves as a vehicle for education and communication with community leaders, citizens and clients; and enables community leaders, DHHS volunteers, citizens and clients to make recommendations on improving the effectiveness of the Department.
Last Tuesday of each month, 3:30 p.m., Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Housing & Human Services, 2525 13th Street, Boulder.

Metropolitan Football Stadium District BoardThe board governs the district and works directly with the Denver Broncos and with the stadium engineers/architects. The County Commissioners appoint one Boulder County resident to serve on the board.
About 6-8 meetings per year. Meetings are held in the morning at the stadium, and are generally no longer than two hours each.

Mosquito Control Advisory BoardPromotes an integrated pest management program, collaborates with agencies to control mosquito-borne diseases, educates the residents of the Boulder County Mosquito Control District to assist in identifying and reducing mosquito breeding sites around their homes and neighborhoods, and advises the County Commissioners and Boulder County Public Health on mosquito control activities and needs.
Third Tuesday, January-October, 6-8 p.m., Boulder County Public Health, 3450 N. Broadway, Boulder.

Nederland EcoPass Public Improvement District Advisory Committee This Advisory Committee will provide the County Commissioners with recommendations regarding administration of the Nederland EcoPass Public Improvement District.
Location and time of the meetings to be determined once the committee is appointed.

Niwot Local Improvement District Advisory CommitteeServes as an independent board to provide recommendations for improvements to the Niwot Local Improvement District; prioritizes expenditures for the LID sales tax revenue for projects including but not limited to capital improvements, community events and promotion, transportation, and transit improvements. The committee reports to the County Commissioners.
First Tuesday of each month, 7 p.m., Eagle Place Senior Center, Community Room, 6790 N. 79th St., Niwot.

Parks & Open Space Advisory CommitteeMakes recommendations to County Commissioners on open space acquisitions and management issues.
Fourth Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m., Commissioners' Hearing Room, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Planning CommissionAdvises the County Commissioners on planning matters and has statutory responsibility to make, adopt and amend the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan. The commission also has a role in reviewing and acting on revisions and amendments to the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan as authorized under the four-body intergovernmental agreement between the City of Boulder and Boulder County.
Third Wednesday of each month, 1:30 p.m. (and 7 p.m. if needed), Commissioners' Hearing Room, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Resource Conservation Advisory BoardAdvises County Commissioners on major waste diversion policies and strategies. Develops policy and action recommendations for a long-range, countywide solid waste management plan.
Fourth Wednesday of each month, 4:45 p.m., Boulder County Recycling Center, 1901 63rd St., Boulder.

Scientific & Cultural Facilities District BoardSCFD is governed by a board of directors. Their duties include hiring the executive director, developing reports and reviewing requirements governing SCFD funds and determining timing of reauthorization process and the ballot language. County Commissioners appoint one county resident to this board.
Location varies around the district. Meetings are once a month on Thursday at 1:00pm.

Subdivision Paving Local Improvement District Advisory CommitteeThis advisory committee serves as an independent committee to provide the Boulder County Commissioners and the Boulder County Transportation Department with recommendations regarding administration of the Subdivision Paving Local Improvement District.
Location time and dates to be determined once committee begins to convene in Feb. and March 2014. (See schedule)

Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness Advisory BoardProvides advice and recommendations to the county, Consortium of Cities, and several municipalities regarding establishment of long-term priorities, annual work implementation plans, and metrics and measurement processes to enable the goals of the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness within Boulder County.
Second Friday of each month, 9 a.m., location varies.
