Salud Family Health Center in Longmont, an example of a capital improvement project funded by Worthy Cause

Worthy Cause

Overview

In 2008 county voters approved “Worthy Cause III,” a 10-year extension of a .05 percent sales and use tax that helps with debt reduction* and funding of capital facilities for nonprofit organizations. These funds help with the high price of obtaining and/or improving facilities that fit nonprofits' specific needs as they serve the population. The tax expires in 2018.

Pool Funds

Worthy Cause sales tax revenues include a pool of funds to be allocated through a competitive grant process. Each year, the Boulder County Commissioners seek Capital Funding or Capital Concept Requests from qualified nonprofit human services agencies for Worthy Cause pool funds.

Application Information

The 2015 Worthy Cause application cycle is now closed. Eligible non-profits were invited to apply for Worthy Cause funding until July 11, 2014; there will be another application cycle for 2016 funding in Spring of 2015. Please check this website for updated application information for the 2016 funding cycle.

For more information about Worthy Cause awards for 2015 or the funding process for WC 2015, please contact Megan Davis at 303-441-3562.

Allocation Restrictions

Worthy cause funds must be allocated to local human services nonprofit organizations or housing authorities for use in capital projects, including building purchase, remodeling and/or debt reduction.* Through this tax, Boulder County’s taxpayers helped fund the nonprofits listed below.

*Debt reduction refers to payments toward capital debts such as mortgages and loans for construction/renovation.
