Maintaining a normal weight is vital to good health.
Obesity has been shown to contribute to numerous chronic health
conditions, and has become one of the leading preventable causes of death
in the United States. Nationwide, the rate of obesity is increasing at an
alarming rate. The Boulder County rate of obesity is lower than state
and national rates.
Overweight and obesity are determined by calculating Body
Mass Index (weight in kilograms/height in meters, squared). A person with
a BMI between 25 and 30 is considered overweight and a person with a BMI
over 30 is considered obese.
