Teen pregnancy and birth are associated with a range of negative
outcomes for the teen mother and her children, including:
Lack of early/adequate prenatal care.
Low birth weight babies.
More likely to receive public assistance.
Lower educational attainment for teen moms.
More likely to be poor with limited employment options.
The teen birth rate in Boulder County has decreased in recent years,
which is consistent with state and national trends. Boulder County’s teen
birth rate continues to be lower than state and national rates.
Teen births also represent a lower percentage of total births in Boulder
County than in Colorado.
However, teen births are not evenly distributed throughout the county,
as Longmont accounts for more than 60% of the teen births in 2002-2003.
