Opportunity:
Addiction Recovery Center (ARC)
Inpatient Detox Facility
Job Title: Volunteer Driver to AA Meetings
Time Commitment: On-call, as needed
Major Objective: Provide transportation for Addiction Recovery
Center (ARC) Detox clients to and from local Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
meetings to help ensure they receive the benefits provided by their attendance.
Duties and Responsibilities may Include:
- Be available “on-call” to transport ARC clients (maximum of three)
to and from local AA meetings.
- Work with ARC staff regarding availability and scheduling (approximately
one meeting per week, as needed).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of the dynamics of alcoholism and drug addictions.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to work well with ARC staff, AA members, and the public.
- Ability to work with a diverse client population.
Requirements:
- For those with substance abuse history, must have a minimum of two
full years abstinence and three full years since discharge from ARC
services or two full years since discharge from other substance abuse
facilities.
- Must submit immunization history form and immunization documentation
and have at least the first of the three hepatitis B series of immunizations
before transporting clients.
- Other immunizations and TB tests may be required, and volunteer must
comply with those requirements in a timely manner.
- Be responsible for commitment made to ARC staff and clients.
- Submit to background checks (Colorado Bureau of Investigation,
TRAILS, and Department of Motor Vehicle).
- Volunteers must have their own vehicles, a current driver’s license,
and a driving record in good standing; provide evidence of automobile
insurance; submit up-to-date copies of driver’s license or auto
insurance renewals as they occur. Mileage will be reimbursed.
- Required to pass a BAL (blood alcohol level) test in order to
transport clients.
Training:
- Universal precautions and TB training will be provided by our
Communicable Disease/Occupational Health Nurse.
- Volunteers will receive training by the shift supervisor and
staff Detox counselors as to what is expected as a volunteer driver.

Supervision:
- Supervision will be provided by the Detox Coordinator and the shift
supervisor as needed.
