GENESIS serves Boulder County teen
parents from pregnancy through the child’s third
birthday. The goal of the program is to promote healthy
parenting practices within teen parent families in
Boulder County. The program began as a pilot in 1989.
GENESIS staff (consisting of social
workers, parent educators, and a nurse) provides
pregnant and parenting teens with a continuum of case
management services to assist them throughout their
pregnancy and in the early parenting years. Services
include transportation to appointments, assistance with
accessing prenatal, postpartum, and well-baby care,
information and support on healthy pregnancy and
parenting practices, referral and linkage to
school/work, social services benefits, and housing
options. In addition, staff can provide crucial
emotional support during a difficult time in a teen’s
life.
The parent educator staff consists of
former teen parents who have overcome the obstacles of
parenting at an early age. They are strong role models
for young parents. The social work staff is available to
provide short-term and crisis counseling to clients, as
well as conduct initial intakes and assessments. The
GENESIS nurse is available to teach birthing classes,
provide breast-feeding education and support, and help
clients access needed medical care for themselves or
their children.
Staff is available to meet with clients
in the comfort of their homes, at GENESIS offices, or at
neutral sites.
Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5
PM.
