Prevention/Intervention Program

The Prevention/Intervention Program places counselors in middle schools and high schools in both Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts. These counselors, referred to as "interventionists," provide:

  • Short-term counseling to students and their families.
  • Assessment and referral for students in need of long-term counseling or other services.
  • Crisis intervention to deal with emotional traumas, such as violent incidents or the death of a fellow student or teacher.
  • Life skills and self-concept training for students.
  • School-wide training in assets development.
  • Training and support for youth leadership and peer mentor programs.

Staff is trained to address substance abuse; depression/suicide; family and peer conflict; runaway and homelessness; grief and loss; interpersonal relationships; and school issues such as expulsion, dropout, intimidation, and harassment.

This program has received a Governor's Award for its collaborative community effort.
