Clean Air Consortium
2007 Clean Air Challenge Results
Nearly 280 people pledged to take action and
learn about the importance of protecting our air quality
by reducing vehicle emissions. Of these, 206 followed
through and recorded their actions during the summer of 2007.
Collectively, participants reduced nearly
335,000 vehicle miles during the contest period. That’s more
than 14,000 gallons of gasoline that were not burned.
With more than double the participation in
2007 over 2006, participants generated 1,900 lbs. less ozone.
They also reduced about 276,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide, the
main contributor to global warming. This is the equivalent
of
what 28 people would produce from driving their cars for an
entire year!
The University of Colorado had the largest
number of participants (78), Boulder County followed in
second place (50 participants), and Amgen came on board for the
first time this year and tied UCAR/NCAR for third largest
number of participants. Our grand prize, an electric bike,
went to Mary Corbat of Boulder County. Mary reduced her
vehicle miles traveled during the contest period by 1,216
miles in just 3 months.
The 3 runner-up winners all reduced
their vehicle miles traveled by more than 3,000 miles. The
runner-up winners, who will each receive a $50 REI gift card,
are: Robert Stubs with the University of Colorado, Eric Aakko with Boulder County, and James Vandyke of NCAR.
