Stop Idling and Spare the Air
When you turn off your engine while you wait or are parked, you will:
- Spare the Air: Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions
and smog.
- Breathe Easier: Reduce unhealthy exhaust fumes that
contribute to asthma and cardiovascular episodes.
- Save Money: use less fuel; saving fuel will save you
money. Idling for over 10 seconds uses more fuel than restarting
your engine.
If every US resident reduced their idling by 5 minutes a day,
together we could save as much as 3.8 million gallons of gasoline and
reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40,000 tons or 13 million tons
annually!!
Spread the Word Idling Won’t Get You Anywhere!
In cities across the globe, the personal automobile is the single
greatest polluter, as emissions from a billion vehicles on the road add
up to a planet-wide problem. Driving a private car is a typical
citizen's most air polluting activity.
