Boulder County
Clean
Air Consortium
A Shared Commitment to Air Quality
The Boulder County Clean Air Consortium (BCCAC) was established in 1987 by
community leaders in the private and public sectors — dedicated
individuals who share a commitment to improving air quality in Boulder
County. The committee is co-chaired by Boulder County Commissioner Will
Toor and private sector representative Graham Hill of 21 Wheels, Electric
Vehicle Gallery.
Today the BCCAC has grown to include more than 50 organizations and dozens
of volunteers working together to address the air pollution challenges of
our growing region. BCCAC is making a difference in Boulder County
through:
- Education and awareness.
- Implementation of voluntary, non-regulatory policies and programs
related to air quality and pollution prevention.
- Monthly meetings at which ideas, expertise, and resources are
exchanged.
Goals of the BCCAC:
- Develop non-regulatory approaches to assist businesses with
pollution prevention, often with cost savings.
- Sponsor educational events for Boulder County citizens to increase
awareness of local air quality issues.
- Sponsor education events for Boulder County businesses to increase
awareness of environmentally friendly alternatives and pollution
prevention options and savings.
- Provide a forum for the exchange of expertise, ideas, and resources
among Consortium participants and other groups.
Accomplishments:
- Developed a clean air lesson kit for the students of Boulder Valley
and St. Vrain Valley school districts. "The Clean Air Trunk" provides a
hands-on program for grades 5-7.
- Sponsored public forums on air pollution prevention issues, such as
regulatory requirements, local air pollution problems, employee
transportation programs, and alternative fuels.
- Received statewide recognition and awards for efforts to improve
the air in Boulder County using non-regulatory approaches.
