Do-It-Yourself Radon Program Offers Lower-Cost
Alternatives to Address Boulder County Radon Concerns
Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) is offering a free
do-it-yourself program for homeowners and others who are interested in
learning how to reduce radon levels in their homes. Many people are not
aware of how straightforward these repairs can be. In fact, the technology
has advanced to the point that many homeowners in Colorado and the Western
United States have undertaken these repairs themselves.
This 4-hour program is being offered so that citizens can learn about
local radon concerns, how to measure for radon, and most importantly, how
it can be remediated. The program should benefit anyone who wants to
reduce his or her exposure to radon. This free program will address radon
mitigation techniques for both existing and new homes in the Front Range.
Since space is limited, interested individuals are encouraged to register
for this program by calling Boulder County Public Health at (303)
441-1180. Elevated concentrations of radon are prevalent in
as many as 40% of homes in Boulder County and throughout the Front Range.
This naturally occurring radioactive gas has been shown by the National
Cancer Institute to significantly increase the potential of lung cancer.
More and more people are taking measures to test and reduce dangerous
levels of this cancer causing gas in their homes. Date:
May 21, 2005 (Saturday)
Time: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Location: Boulder County Public Health Auditorium, 3450 Broadway,
Boulder, CO
Cost: Free
Registration: Call Linda Flowers at (303) 441-1180
