County Offers Program on Radon and Real
Estate
Boulder County Public Health will offer a free four-hour program on
radon concerns that often arise during real estate transactions on August
29, 2005. This program is open to all interested persons.
Real estate professionals attending will receive four (4)
credit hours toward their continuing education requirements.
This unique accredited program is sponsored by Boulder County
Public Health in conjunction with Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment and Colorado State University
Cooperative Extension of Boulder County. The program will be
taught by Douglas L. Kladder from the National Environmental
Health Association Center for Environmental Research &
Training, Inc. (NEHA-CERTI).
Radon is an increasingly common concern during real estate
transactions. The program examines the radon issue as it
relates to real estate in the Rocky Mountain region.
Information regarding proper testing and mitigation and
addressing buyer/seller concerns will be discussed.
Elevated concentrations of radon are prevalent in as many
as 40% of homes located in the Rocky Mountain region. An
odorless and naturally occurring radioactive gas, radon has
been shown by the National Cancer Institute to significantly
increase the risk of lung cancer; however methods have been
developed and proven for measuring and remediating radon
concentrations in a cost-effective manner.
NEHA-CERTI provides radon technical support and serves as a
provider of radon education. Instructor Douglas L. Kladder is
an internationally recognized expert in the field of radon.
