Identifying a Problem
Symptoms,
such as fatigue, congestion, and allergies, that disappear outside of the
home may signal that you or your family members are experiencing health
effects from an indoor air quality problem. Print out Boulder County Public Health’s
Household Questionnaire(PDF-149KB) and
Indoor Air Quality
Home Tour (PDF-116KB) to find out if you have an
indoor air problem and learn how to solve these problems.
Source
Control
The best way to solve an indoor air problem is to identify and
fix the source of the problem. Otherwise, both the problem and health
effects will continue.
For
example, if you have a mold problem, cleaning the mold will not simply
solve the problem. Instead
the water source feeding the mold needs to be controlled. Other solutions to air problems are increasing the
ventilation in the home and using an air cleaner. These last two steps should be used in conjunction with source
control in order to effectively solve the problem.
