Alternatives to Conventional Wood-burning Fireplaces
Health Effects of Burning Wood
High Pollution (RED) Days
Colorado Wood Burning Regulations
Additional Resources

Burning wood in a conventional fireplace or non-certified wood stove is inefficient, wastes wood, and can deprive your home of heat. When wood burns, it gives off a variety of pollutants that can be harmful to your health. In fact, wood burned in a conventional fireplace gives off many pollutants, including over 100 hazardous chemicals that are toxic and carcinogenic (cancer-causing).

Fortunately, there are many alternatives to conventional wood-burning fireplaces. Cleaner burning natural gas, wood, or pellet appliances are more energy efficient, convenient, provide easier temperature control, and can all be used on mandatory no-burn (RED) days.
