Alternatives to Burning
Mountain Slash Drop-Off Sites
Service: Dispose of slash (i.e., tree limbs
up to 6" in diameter and brush) for mountain residents. Wood chips are
also free to residents to use as mulch.
Location: Nederland transfer station and recycling drop off
center at
286 Ridge Road, Nederland.
Cost and availability: The service is free. In order to ensure
that space is available for each load delivered, users need to call the
transfer station at 303.258.7878 to make an appointment. There is no
limit on quantities if space is available. Service can be used by
residents and contractors. Wood chips for use as garden mulch are
available free of charge while supplies last, but must be loaded by
hand. This site is open Memorial Day through Labor Day (dates of
operation are subject to change. Please call ahead).
Organic Waste Drop-Off Center
Service: Organic waste drop-off
Location: Western Disposal Services Transfer Station, 5880 Butte
Mill Road, Boulder (½ mile east of the junction of Pearl and 55th)
Cost and availability: Residents of unincorporated Boulder County:
$27.87 per ton (60% of the regular cost; Boulder County pays the other
40%). Quantities less than a ton are charged a pro-rated amount.
Available Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. (year-round); Saturdays, 7 a.m.
–
5 p.m. (March - November) and 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. (November - March).
Community Chipping
Service: Financial assistance is
available to mountain communities who organize chipping projects serving
at least 20 property owners.

Cost and availability: Subject to pre-approval by the County, the
County will reimburse 40% of the cost of community chipping projects.
