Alternatives to Burning

Mountain Slash Drop-Off Sites

Service: Dispose of slash (i.e., tree limbs up to 6" in diameter and brush) for mountain residents. Wood chips are also free to residents to use as mulch.
Location: Waste transfer station and recycling centers at 14875 Hwy 7, Allenspark, and 286 Ridge Road, Nederland.
Cost and availability: The service is free and is available in the spring, summer, and fall. The sites are closed in the winter.

Organic Waste Drop-Off Center

Service: Organic waste drop-off
Location: Western Disposal Services Transfer Station, 5880 Butte Mill Road, Boulder (½ mile east of the junction of Pearl and 55th)
Cost and availability: Residents of unincorporated Boulder County: $27.87 per ton (60% of the regular cost; Boulder County pays the other 40%). Quantities less than a ton are charged a pro-rated amount. Available Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. (year-round); Saturdays, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. (March - November) and 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. (November - March).

Community Chipping

Service: Financial assistance is available to mountain communities who organize chipping projects serving at least 20 property owners.

Cost and availability: Subject to pre-approval by the County, the County will reimburse 40% of the cost of community chipping projects. Please call the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division at 720-564-2220.
