Q. How do I clean up mouse droppings to protect myself from hanta virus?

A. Air out the interior for at least 30 minutes before cleaning; spray droppings, nest material, and carcasses with disinfectant and let soak 5 to 10 minutes before cleaning up with mop, sponge, or wet-vacuum. DO NOT SWEEP OR DRY VACUUM RODENT DROPPINGS. Dispose of contaminated materials in a sealed plastic bag and place outdoors in a trashcan. For more information:

Q. I have prairie dogs in my backyard. Do they carry plague? What can I do?

A. Prairie dogs can carry fleas that may be infected with plague. Attempt to exclude them from your property via snow fencing or other materials they cannot see through. If you need further assistance:
