Q. Where do I go for a food handling class?
A. Boulder County does not require food handler cards, but
does offer STAR (Sanitation Training Assistance
for Restaurateurs) classes in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
STAR classes are held at Boulder County Public Health or can be
scheduled at your facility (by request). There is a fee for the
class.

Q. What is required to sell food at a temporary event?
A. Contact
the coordinator of the specific event. The coordinator will send you a
packet to fill out. Return the completed packet to the event
coordinator. The event coordinator must deliver all of the packets to
the Boulder County Public Health Environmental Health Division 10
working days before the event for our review. A Colorado Retail Food Establishment
license is
required.
If you
have a license from another county in Colorado, attach a copy
of the license to your application. If you hold a City/County of Denver license, you will
be required to also obtain the Colorado license.

Q. I am buying a restaurant business.
How do I transfer
the existing license?
A. Colorado retail food establishment licenses are not transferable.
The buyer needs
to call the Boulder County Environmental Health Division,
303-441-1564,and
request a change of ownership inspection. When the inspection is completed, the inspector will
issue a license for the new owner.

Q. What do I
have to do to open a new restaurant in Boulder County?
A. A plan review is required for a new or remodeled facility. Fees are due
upon
application. A
retail food establishment license is required and will be
processed at the time of opening.
