KFC Recalls Double Chocolate Chip Cakes

April 21, 2008 - DENVER - State health officials Monday announced that KFC Corp. is voluntarily recalling its Double Chocolate Chip Cakes because they contain eggs, milk, wheat, soy and possibly traces of tree nuts, ingredients not individually labeled on product packaging. Continued


Two Products Recalled Due to Salmonella and Undeclared Milk

April 7, 2008—Denver—State health officials Monday announced two national food recalls, one involving Malt-O-Meal Unsweetened Puffed Rice and Unsweetened Puffed Wheat cereals due to potential contamination with Salmonella, and the other involving Harry and David Chocolate-Covered Select Blend Espresso Beans containing milk as an undeclared ingredient. Honduran Cantaloupes Recalled Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

April 1, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Monday advised consumers who may have purchased cantaloupes grown, packed and shipped by an independent third-party grower, Agropecuaria Montelibano of San Lorenzo Valle, Honduras, to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund as the products have been linked to an outbreak of salmonella infection in the United States and Canada. Stonyfield Farm Blueberry Fat-Free Yogurt Recalled Due to Glass Fragments

March 31, 2008—Denver—Stonyfield Farm has announced a voluntary recall of its organic nonfat blueberry yogurt due to glass fragments in the products. Continued.


Alabama Firm Recalls Poultry Giblets That May Be Adulterated

March 19, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Wednesday advised Colorado consumers that Cagle’s Inc., a Collinsville, Ala., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 943,000 pounds of various fresh and frozen poultry giblets and fresh carcasses with giblets. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service the recalled product, including the giblets, may be unfit for consumption. No illnesses have been associated with recalled product at this time. Continued.


Four Restaurants Added to the State’s Smart Meal Seal Program

March 13, 2008—Denver—Thanks to a creative apprentice program at Metropolitan State College of Denver, the Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment welcomes four Colorado restaurants to its Smart Meal Seal program: Qdoba, Rosalinda’s Mexican, Imperial Chinese and Queen of Sheba. Limited Number of Aunt Jemima Pancake & Waffle Mix Products Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

March 5, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Wednesday advised Colorado consumers that The Quaker Oats Co. is recalling a small amount of Aunt Jemima Original Pancake & Waffle Mix which was sold at the Glendale Super Target store due to the potential risk of salmonella contamination. Canadian Firm Recalls Frozen Chicken Entrées for Possible Listeria Contamination

March 4, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Wednesday advised consumers that Inovata Foods, an Edmonton, Alberta firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,780 pounds of frozen chicken entrées that may be contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Continued.


Parents Reminded That Baby Chicks and Ducks Can Carry Salmonella

March 4, 2008—Denver—As spring approaches, state epidemiologists are warning parents and caregivers to keep children 5 years of age and younger from handling young birds, such as chicks and ducklings, as they pose a health risk of Salmonella. Salmonella is a common cause of food-borne illness. However, it also can be spread to people by direct contact with animals that carry the bacteria. Continued.


See’s Candies, Inc. Recalls Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Due to Undeclared Milk

February 13, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Wednesday advised consumers who may have purchased 16-oz. bags of See’s Candies Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The product has been recalled by See’s Candies, Inc. of San Francisco, Calif. because it may contain undeclared traces of milk. Continued.


Allergy Alert Issued for Annie’s Naturals Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette Dressing

February 13, 2008—Denver—Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment officials Wednesday advised consumers who may have purchased 8-oz. bottles of Annie’s Naturals Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette Dressing at grocery and natural food stores in Colorado between Dec. 20, 2007, and Feb.12, 2008, about potential allergic reactions due to product mislabeling. Continued

Cooking and storing pies safely is important because germs that cause foodborne illness can grow in pies kept at room temperature when the ingredients include milk and eggs.
