Goal
The goal of the Vector Control Program is to prevent the spread of
disease from vectors to humans.
What is a Vector?
A "vector" is an animal or insect capable of transmitting disease to
humans. This program monitors wildlife, mosquitoes, ticks, and other
insects to detect the presence of West Nile virus, Western Equine
Encephalitis, St. Louis Encephalitis, rabies, plague, tularemia, and
hantavirus. Staff works to prevent the transmission of these diseases to humans.
Program services also include oversight of the Boulder County Mosquito
Control Program, investigating complaints, and providing educational
materials and presentations on vector-borne diseases.
