Updated Impaired Waters List to be Considered by Commission
February 8, 2008—Denver—The Colorado Water Quality
Control Commission has scheduled a
public rulemaking hearing, beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday,
Feb. 11, to
consider proposed revisions to the list of Colorado streams,
lakes and
reservoirs that are not meeting water quality standards. A
finalized
list will be submitted to the EPA for approval under the
federal Clean
Water Act.

Boulder
County Public Health Asking for Input about Septic Systems
May 29, 2007—Boulder—In Boulder County there are
over 14,000 households that use septic systems for the
treatment of wastewater. In essence, they are each operating
a miniature wastewater treatment system in their backyards
without any ongoing monitoring of effectiveness. Of these
systems, 4,700 (that's nearly 33%) have not been approved to
ensure their design and installation meet the specific site
requirements to achieve safe treatment of wastewater.

March 19, 2007—Denver—Swimming pool and hot tub
disinfectants (such as chlorine, bromine and compounds
containing copper) and most other maintenance and cleaning
agents are harmful to fish and aquatic life and should be
prevented from entering streams, rivers, ponds or lakes.

Control Commission to Consider Revised Ammonia Standards
February 23, 2007—Denver—The Colorado Water
Quality Control Commission has scheduled a public
rule-making hearing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, to
consider revised ammonia standards for multiple water
segments in the Arkansas, Rio Grande, Colorado, North
Platte, South Platte, Laramie, Republican and Smoky Hill
river basins.
