Focusing on Septic Issues. In our discussions with community members, including homeowners, realtors, mortgage bankers, engineers, installers, pumpers, other regulatory agencies (in Colorado and in other states), academics, and Boulder County municipalities, it was agreed that it does indeed make sense to protect our water and ensure sewage is handled appropriately. Discussions revealed that many people thought septic system owners should have flexibility in the deadline to ensure their system is operating properly, but others felt they should ensure that their systems are operating properly as soon as possible, because the majority of homeowners already handle their wastewater appropriately (by operating an approved septic system or by paying for service from a municipal treatment plant).
