We're all downstream
Everyone downstream depends on clean,
unpolluted water every day. Failing, unapproved, and aging septic
systems pose a serious risk to our water when bacteria
and other pollutants leak into our waterways.
Recent data indicates that E. coli bacteria and
other pollution may already be in our water. Areas of Boulder Creek
indicate the presence of fecal matter and bacteria levels that exceed
water quality standards. Both Boulder Creek and Coal Creek are
on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) list of impaired waterways for E. coli.

Portions of South Boulder Creek have
shown high seasonal levels of E. coli. Some communities have also shown
long-term failures of well samples.
Whether the water is in our creeks and
reservoirs (surface water) or
hidden beneath the ground (groundwater), "It matters."
By making sure your septic system is approved and maintained,
you are helping to protect yourself, your family, and everyone
downstream.
