Emergency Preparedness Program
The Emergency Preparedness Program was originally
established to develop and implement a response plan for natural disasters such as floods
and wildfires; however, that plan has been extended to include response
efforts related to bioterrorism. Boulder County Public
Health (BCPH) regularly convenes a diverse team of staff, representing different department programs, to contribute to the development and
revision of the plan. This team ensures that the ten essential public
health services are continuously provided in the face of disaster. This
team works closely with other local first-responder organizations
including fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services (EMS),
hospitals, community health centers, and other local and state
agencies. Recent federal funding has helped
to enhance the preparedness of BCPH. Staff works on state and federal driven initiatives that will not only improve
local readiness, but also strengthen the public health infrastructure.
These staff members are responsible for enhancing key partnerships within
the community, testing and exercising current drafts of the emergency
response plan, and establishing plans to protect the residents of Boulder
County. Interested in volunteering?
