H1N1 Flu
All people older than 6
months are now eligible to receive the H1N1 vaccination. Although
reports of flu are decreasing, infection rates are still higher than
normal for this time of the year. Flu activity may continue for several
weeks, and other waves of influenza may occur well into 2010.
If you would like to receive the H1N1 vaccination, please first
contact your own health care provider. Over 95% of vaccine received
in Boulder County is distributed to health care providers in the
community.
Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) will provide the vaccine to
eligible people who:
- Do not have a health care provider
- Have a health care provider who has not registered to provide
the vaccine
To make an appointment to receive the H1N1 vaccination at a Boulder
County Public Health immunization clinic, call the CO Help Information
Line at 303.441.1450.
Vaccinations are also being offered at community walk-in flu clinics
and pharmacies. Please visit
www.ImmunizeColorado.com to find a location near you.
H1N1 Influenza
Update
Since August 30, 2009, there have been 69 individuals hospitalized with
H1N1 influenza in Boulder County.
What is novel H1N1 (swine flu)?
Novel H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza
virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in
people in the United States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from
person to person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular
seasonal influenza viruses spread. On June 11, 2009, the
World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a pandemic of novel
H1N1 flu was underway.
