Medical Reserve Corps of Boulder County
During recent national and regional disasters, well-meaning
residents tried to offer much needed volunteer
assistance, but they were
turned away because
they lacked emergency
response training,
security clearance,
and proof of credentials.
After reviewing our
local needs, Boulder
County Public Health
established the Medical Reserve Corps of Boulder
County (MRCBC) to enhance our local emergency preparedness
efforts and coordinate the extensive volunteer
response that will be needed during a public health
emergency.
The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps of Boulder County is to establish teams of trained, local volunteer medical, public health, and safety professionals who can contribute their skills and expertise during times of community and national need.
Who Can Volunteer?
- Medical and health care professionals from all
health occupations, including those who are active,
practicing, retired, or non-practicing.
- Support volunteers who do not perform medical
care, but who are essential to emergency health
care response.
What does the Medical Reserve Corps do?
Medical Reserve Corps volunteers support public
health activities in the event
of an emergency, such as pandemic influenza. Emergency
clinics will be set up when a
large amount of medication,
vaccines, or treatment need to be administered to
the community. Volunteers may serve in a variety of
positions, including:
-
Vaccinator
-
Medical Screener
-
Mental Health Consultant
-
Health Educator
-
Translator
-
Support and Technical Staff
